Protecting Kids Through Winter
NAHA “Winter Life-Guard” Program
Every winter, extreme cold arrives early on the Northern Plains, impacting Native American communities where winter gear is often a luxury rather than a necessity. Through NAHA’s Winter Life-Guard Program, we aim to provide essential warmth by funding $75 purchase orders for winter clothing to hundreds of school-aged children from Sioux Reservations. This vital support helps families purchase coats, sweaters, shoes, mittens, and more, safeguarding children from harsh temperatures and ensuring they can attend school safely.
How the Program Works
Providing Winter Clothing- Through partnerships with the Wal-Mart in Pierre, South Dakota, our program enables Native American families to use Winter Life-Guard purchase orders to buy the essential clothing items they need. Without this assistance, many parents are forced to keep children home to avoid illness or injury due to inadequate winter wear.
School Supplies Needed- We welcome donations of school supplies like notebooks, backpacks, crayons, and pencils to support the educational needs of Native American children.
Donations may be shipped directly to:
