It’s been a busy month for NAHA as we had to get out extra heating vouchers to the Native Americans living on the Reservations that were hit with three big snow storms in May. What would have been our last check to the St Francis Energy Company for the vouchers was not. We had to help put heat in the homes of families during these harsh couple of weeks. A wonderful product that we acquired this month was an assortment of medical supplies. These medical supplies were distributed to the nursing homes, dialysis centers and hospitals on the Reservations. One of those items was diabetes testing strips. As some of you may know they are not cheap and so many Native Americans have diabetes but cannot afford these strips. We also acquired a full truckload of “Croc” shoes in all different sizes and colors. Many Native Americans may only have one pair of shoes that they’ve had for years, so for them to be able to receive a pair of these “summer shoes” was such a joy.

The struggle for survival is at a crucial point, and each month presents a challenge greater than the month before here at NAHA. Without generous and kind donors like you, we would run out of the food we distribute and the blankets that keep penniless Native Americans from freezing under the brutal South Dakota winter winds.
