We have been busy gearing up for the holidays and the harsh winter that lies ahead for the Reservations in South Dakota. We just acquired several truckloads of new mattresses that we will distribute to those in most need along with the bedding to go with it. These mattresses will be life savers for those who have nothing to sleep on. For the first time in a while, we were able to purchase a truckload of hamburger. It came in 10 lb individually wrapped rolls. The communities are extremely thrilled with this and are giving nothing but great feedback on receiving the hamburger. Again, this is why we tell our donors that monetary donations are so helpful because we can buy full truckloads of food, mattresses, etc. at a fraction of the cost that you or I would pay at the store.
As we all know Thanksgiving is just a month away which means we need to start preparing now to get the funds together to purchase turkeys for the families on the Reservations. Many families have experienced the same cruel situation every year, sitting down at their table on Thanksgiving Day with no food to share. I am afraid this will happen again this year unless you and other caring supporters of NAHA answer this urgent request to help purchase 1,500 turkeys to the families in need. For more than 20 years we have purchased and delivered turkeys to the Reservations and made Thanksgiving happy for thousands of Sioux families in need. We want to continue this good deed but we need the help and support of our caring and generous donors like you.
It’s important that you respond both quickly and generously for two reasons:
- Even though NAHA purchases turkeys in bulk, allowing us to stretch our dollars much farther than an individual could at a grocery store, it still takes a large sum of money to buy 1,500 turkeys.
- Buying that many turkeys and getting them to the families in remote parts of the Reservations we serve takes several weeks.
Your urgent response is requested immediately. Please donate whatever you can manage, to help purchase turkeys and make Thanksgiving 2018 a Happy Thanksgiving for families that constantly struggle to keep food on their tables. We want to help as many families as we can so again, please donate today so we can get started on purchasing and delivering turkeys to the Reservations in South Dakota.
