Last week an awful occurrence happened on Pine Ridge Reservation. One of the duplexes had a gas leak and blew up. Four people were killed, including an elderly couple and two teenage girls and several others injured. The place was leveled, looking like a tornado landed directly on top of the house. All that is left is splintered wood and twisted metal. The tribal housing department has said they will make sure the people who lived in that building will not be homeless and have somewhere to go. NAHA delivers to that community on Pine Ridge Reservation and they have reached out asking for our help with clothing, household items, anything to get them back on their feet. As we all know Thanksgiving is just a few short months away which means we need to start preparing now to get the funds together to purchase turkeys for the families on the Reservations. Many families have experienced the same cruel situation every year, sitting down at their table on Thanksgiving Day with no food to share but maybe some bread and water. I am afraid this will happen again this year unless you and other caring supporters of NAHA answer this urgent request to help purchase 1,500 turkeys to the families in need. For over 20 years we have purchased and delivered turkeys to the Reservations and made Thanksgiving happy for thousands of Sioux families in need. We want to continue this good deed but we need the help and support of our caring and generous donors like you.
It’s important that you respond both quickly and generously for two reasons:
- Even though NAHA purchases turkeys in bulk-allowing us to stretch our dollars much farther than an individual could at a grocery store- it still takes a large sum of money to buy 1,500 turkeys.
- Buying that many turkeys and getting them to the families in remote parts of the Reservations we serve takes several weeks.
Your urgent response is requested immediately.
