March 2023 Newsletter

This winter has proven to be an awful one with many storms hitting the Reservations since early September. Some places didn’t get dug out for at least a week or two so we made sure as soon as they were ready to receive, we had our trucks on the Reservations with supplies.

How your donations have made a difference this winter on the Reservations:

“At the Mission CAP on the Rosebud Reservation, NAHA has begun to deliver home repair items and much needed appliances. Many homes have been damaged by the snow, cold and wind. We will be distributing many more home repair items as we get them in and the repairs will begin in Spring.”

“The small community of Wanblee on the Pine Ridge Reservation has also had a brutal winter with huge amounts of snow, negative degree temperatures and wind. Unfortunately, with these conditions, has come with a large amount of deaths in the community. We have been able to help with food for the wakes, clothing, winter items and gifts that are given away at the funerals which is a native tradition for the families of the deceased. People from the Wanblee Community have called and expressed their appreciation for the NAHA deliveries many times and said without our trucks, their traditions would be lost, among other devastating situations that would occur without NAHA’s assistance.”

We also we able to acquire two tractor trailer loads of brand-new mattresses that consisted of twin and queen-sized beds. Many individuals and families don’t have beds to sleep on or if they do, it is one bed for a household of 8-10 people. To be able to deliver mattresses to those who don’t have one and seeing the emotions and appreciation, is one of the reasons why NAHA is still operating. This problem and situation is the reality they face every single day and the need for assistance to help them survive is greater than ever. Please donate towards our 2023 Gifts N Kind Program today and give your miracle donation to help Native Americans living on the poverty-stricken Reservations in South Dakota.

You are probably wondering what a “miracle donation” is and how it will work. If you were to contribute $25, do you know what $25 could mean to a Sioux family? It could mean a new, not used, pair of shoes, a warm blanket to keep out the brutal blizzard-like winds. The shoes alone would bring tears to your eyes if you were to see in person what too many Native Americans have on their feet, shoes that have no soles holding the upper parts in place and that’s those who actually have shoes. Sadly, too many children go without, even in the winter time.

You have to be thinking, “Wait a minute. $25 can’t go that far.” Under what we might consider “normal” conditions, of course not. But that is why NAHA exists. We constantly contact and plead with manufacturers and large distributors to acquire inventory at so far below the lowest wholesale prices that sometimes ourselves find it hard to believe what our handful of dollars can accomplish. Here are some of the ways we can increase the value of your donation:

  • $3,000 in contributions = $185,000 in personal care/hygiene product
  • $4,000 in contributions = $300,000 in blankets and bedding
  • $6,000 in contributions = $220,000+ in clothing
  • $6,000 in contributions = $150,000+ in mattresses
  • $960 in contributions = $90,000 in shoes
  • $2,000 in contributions = $1,000,000 in furniture, hardware & tools

Please donate today and help us continue to acquire the products that are life necessities and help them to survive on a daily basis. No one else is helping them so they are counting on us to make sure they have food on their table, heat in their homes, warm clothing and blankets, and any other necessities.
