NAHA
Holiday Turkey Program

|
Like other Americans, Native American families want to prepare a turkey dinner with all the fixings to bless their children and elderly with an especially warm, nutritious and delicious meal on these holidays. For many years now, NAHA has begun a new tradition on the reservations. NAHA began providing 1,000 to 1,500 turkey dinners with all the fixings. Now at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, hundreds of boxes of groceries including one 10-12 lb turkey, vegetables, and other staples is distributed through community centers on the reservations. This NAHA Holiday Turkey Program delivers enough food to feed 10,000 Native Americans on these special holidays. In 2000, NAHA delivered almost 35,000 pounds of turkeys to the Rosebud and Pine Ridge Reservations, and to Rapid City. Before NAHA stepped in, many Native American families went to bed hungry or simply shared a slice of cheese or an Indian taco on these special dates. An Indian taco is basically some fry bread with a bit of ground beef tucked inside - not the kind of feast that most Americans expect on Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. It is our hope that those who visit us in this virtual world on the Internet will join our close knit circle of supportive friends by making a special gift on our Personal & Secure Donation Page. Those who give are touching the lives of so many Native Americans as this letter of thanks shows. If you’d like to join in this program and other projects of the Native American Heritage
Association, please go to our Personal & Secure Donation Page. NAHA
