Emergency Food

Hunger is the fate of hundreds of Indians every month. With reservation unemployment at 70%, 80% or even higher, many Indian families face hunger when their relief checks or food stamps run out before the end of the month.

NAHA has arranged with merchants in Rapid City and on the reservations to honor Emergency Vouchers---typically for about $25 worth of grocery staples---paid for by NAHA.

These families are often provided with clean, warm clothing sent to NAHA by generous donors all over the country.

Who benefits from NAHA Emergency Vouchers?

* Homeless Families
* Native Americans with
  Disabilities
* Elderly who cannot pay for
  required medicine or other
  vital basic necessities

Emergency Fuel

NAHA Delivery, Transportation and Medical Vehicles

With the generous help of many supporters, NAHA has not only presented Indian families with Gas Vouchers, but NAHA has also purchased food and clothing, delivery trucks and handicapped accessible vans to transport sick and elderly Native Americans on the reservations.

The only way to experience NAHA's Fuel Program is to walk in the shoes of my people for a moment.

Imagine, if you will, having an urgent need to get food or medicine to feed your sick, dehydrated infant or to care for your elderly diabetic grandparent who lives with you.

You have no car and no gas money to pay for fuel.  Your nearest neighbor is three miles down the way and the nearest hospital or store is over one hundred miles.

What do you do?    Who do you turn to?

Pictures of your suffering child or elderly family member begin flying through your head and prayers to the Great Spirit begins shooting up like arrows from your heart and mind.  You can't help but panic and wonder about what is going to happen to your loved ones.NAHA Emergency Fuel Voucher

Thanks to the generosity of friends from all over America, NAHA's Fuel Program supplies the most needy Native Americans with Gas Vouchers.  With these vouchers, medical and physical emergencies are met with a greater sense of hope.  Calling on a neighbor with a vehicle is easier.  You can pay for the gas with your voucher to get to the hospital or the store or wherever you need to go.  NAHA has already setup a program with local gas stations to accept the NAHA Gas Vouchers.

NAHA Emergency Fuel Voucher Receipt In order to alleviate this situation further, there is also the NAHA Medical Service on standby to help out with several ambulance runs during the day.  Every day on the Rosebud, Pine Ridge, Lower Brulé, Crow Creek, and Yankton Reservations, Native American families face serious hardships that most Americans never fear or will never experience due to a lack of fuel for their vehicles.

Today you can go to our Personal & Secure Donation Page and give Native American families a wonderful gift - peace of mind when emergencies arise.
