NAHA
Emergency Food Relief
![]()
* Unemployment on the Reservations is over 70%. * The poorest county in the U.S. is on the Pine Ridge Sioux Reservation, with over 63% of the people living below the federal poverty line. To meet the hunger crisis in “Indian Country,” NAHA delivers an average of 145,000 pounds of food to the Sioux Reservation communities every month. For a more accurate accounting of the exact pounds of food delivered every month to Native American families, please refer to our NAHA Food Program Chart. In addition, NAHA pays all the expenses of a soup kitchen for the homeless on the Rosebud Reservation, which was founded and operated entirely by Native Americans. During Thanksgiving
and Christmas, while most of America is enjoying festive holiday
dinners, many Indian families go to bed hungry.
Several years ago, NAHA began purchasing turkeys for Indian
families on the Rosebud Reservation and in Rapid City.
With enough donor support, NAHA hopes to provide over 10,000 Native Americans with turkey dinners in the next holiday season. If you’d like to join in this program and other projects of the Native American Heritage Association, please go to our Personal & Secure Donation Page. |
